Jane Shin represented the Burnaby-Lougheed constituency from 2013 to 2017 as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for the New Democratic Party, becoming the first Korean-Canadian elected to the BC legislature.

During her time as MLA, Ms. Shin served as Opposition Spokesperson for Small Business, and Deputy Spokesperson for Trade and Multiculturalism. She also served on the Select Standing Committee on Health and Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services. She had also been previously appointed as Deputy Opposition Spokesperson for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Immigration and Intergovernmental Relations.

Ms. Shin was born in South Korea, and immigrated to Canada at 11 years old. In her later teenage years, she was hospitalized for a serious health crisis attributed to leukemia, inspiring her interest in health care. Since a young age, she has been actively involved in community service, volunteering for the Canadian Red Cross Society, and the Multicultural Society of BC. Her work has been recognized by the City of Surrey and BCTV.

Ms. Shin is an educator and entrepreneur, studying Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of British Columbia before receiving a medical doctorate degree from Spartan Health Sciences University in St. Lucia. She has taught at Vancouver Community College, West Coast College of Massage Therapy, and at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, where she was also the Head of Department in Health Care Management.
