Ron Foyle
The following is from Intergenerational Integrities 2021 Anthology. Intergenerational Integrities involves 18 like-minded, passionate secondary students of British Columbia and Alberta who share a common love for writing, history and learning. Their purpose is to connect youth and seniors, especially during the Covid-19 global pandemic, where many have been physically and socially isolated. For this initiative, each student has been paired with a veteran of the Korean War.
Ron Foyle spent 5 years in the Canadian Navy, serving a 14 month tour in Korea aboard the Canadian Destroyer HMCS Cayuga. He was on the third trip of this ship which began towards the end of the shooting war, during the cease fire and up until the Truce was signed. He joined the Vancouver Police Department and attained rank of Acting Superintendent before serving in many capacities and squads including Homicide and Robbery, Major Crime Squad, Coordinated Law Enforcement Unit, Emergency Response Team (SWAT, Officer I/C Expo 86, and many VIP Visits including the visit to Expo by Prince Charles and Princess Diana). Upon retiring from the Police Department, he spent 7 years as the Security Manager for Work Safe BC and another 6 years as the Loss Prevention Manager for Amica Mature Lifestyles who operated 27 retirement homes across Canada.

“Will And Reform”
By Galicia Gordon
Will and reform
He takes the call
Making quick tracks
Shifting through the
Unknown road
Will and reform
He repatriates
And seeks no less
Than courtesy
And common ground
Will and reform
His unremitting efforts
Strenuous back-end work
Rising palpitations
Shifting gears
Will and reform
His fellow veteran
Makes connections
With the anchor above
His hospital bed
Will and reform
His treasured memories
And intricate experiences
Shining light on peaceful wins
And traumatic losses
Will and reform
He leaves his stamp
On historical impact
Working through challenges
Sharing candid crusades
