Miyoung Lee: CBC Vancouver News Host and Producer

As the current host of CBC’s Vancouver News at 11:00 p.m., this year marks Miyoung Lee’s sixteenth year as a CBC host and producer. Her broadcast journalism career began as an intern at CBC on September 10th, 2001, the day before the September 11th attack on the World Trade Centre in New York City. This significant event at the beginning of her career began her journey into reporting on some of the biggest stories over the next decade, including the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, the Queen of the North sinking, and the taser death of Robert Dziekanski.Before moving into television as a reporter and producer with CBC Vancouver News, Miyoung worked as a producer and director for CBC Radio One The Early Edition. Miyoung Lee graduated from both the British Columbia Institute of Technology with a Broadcast Journalism Degree and the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in History and a Minor in English Literature. Apart from her successful career on the air and her family life, including her husband and two daughters, Miyoung spends much of her free time volunteering and giving back to her community. Most notably, Miyoung mentors high school students aspiring for a career in journalism, as well as volunteering with the Richmond Student Parent Colt Program, an organization that supports teen mothers to complete their high school education.As a result of her work in broadcast journalism and her work in the community, Miyoung has been the recipient of multiple regional and national awards and nominations, in recognition of her contributions. These accolades have included multiple regional and national Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada (RTNDA) awards, Jack Webster nominations, the CanWest Global Systems Broadcasters of the Future Award, The Ruth Hancock Scholarship in Journalism, and the Senator Vivienne Poy Leadership Award, amongst many others.
