Fenwick was born in 1865 at Markham township, northwest of Toronto.  He arrived in Korea in 1889 and pioneered in the domesticating of the Korean Church and introduced the western method of farming, including orchard-cultivation, to Koreans.  He lived among the natives in a straw-thatched house and farmed and cultured fruit trees to support himself and his mission work.  Fenwick passed away in 1935 at Wonsan (now North Korea) and is buried there.
